Pitt ENS Alert:
Active shooter has been identified at Western Psychiatric Institute.
Lockdown recommended until further notice.
Along with thousands of others, I followed the news, shocked and horrified, as more details emerged. The randomness, the senselessness...a life cut short. And echoing through my mind was "This could have been me." There's no reason why this couldn't have happened on a different day, when I would have been there. There's no reason why I shouldn't have been in that lobby at the same time as the shooter. Obviously, there is a Reason, I know, but it's just one more reminder of how NOT in control I am of my life. Every day, every breath, every heartbeat, is ordained by God.
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?...But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (Matthew 6: 25-27, 33-34)My prayers continue to go out to the family of Michael Schaab, as well as to the other families and victims involved.
